The 6th chapter in the Skywalker Saga, but the third one to be released (I know, it’s confusing a bit). This one stars Mark Hamill as the famous Jedi Luke Skywalker as he tries to redeem his father Darth Vader ( oups, 40 year old spoiler here) and overthrow the evil galactic Empire. The movie also stars Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, back in their respective roles of Princess Leia Organa and Captain Han Solo.

This episode as always been a favorite of mine. I used to watch it every week when I was a kid. I now realize that I have this emotional attachment to it that enables me to completely be impartial and really see it as it is. This being said, it’s a great film! Compare to what’s been done since then, it’s a masterpiece, but I see now that it has a lot of flaws. The Ewoks and most the films puppets and creatures are in there for the selling of toys and merchandise, we all know that. I’m wondering though, would I still be a fan today if it wasn’t for those wonderful creatures that filled up my imagination as a kid?

The final sequence between the Emperor, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker is simply incredible. To me, it’s the essence of what makes Star Wars great, mythic and the reason why it’ll always be special to me heart. This episode might know be as smart and profound as its predecessor : The Empire strikes back, but it sure is a hell of a ride!
